Rain

What do you do on rainy days???

Take a moment to experience the beauty of rain…

Last night was so wonderful, I cooked tikka masala, rice, samosas and naan bread and we watched tv and cuddled with the window open and the rain playing music to our ears in the background. It was the best!

This morning began just as wonderful as last night ended because we were awakened to the same sweet symphony of the pitter-patter of the rain. It is such a beautiful sight to watch the rain as it trickles down from the sky above and cascades through the tall leafy palm trees before it meets the land below.

I am a true pluviophile- a lover of rain; a person who finds joy and peace of mind during rainy days. There is such beauty in rain: the purpose, the science, the sound, and the smell. Rain has such a refreshingly, powerful, sweet, earthy scent that it utterly intoxicating. Some folks see the rain as dreary and I see it as cleansing for the soul.

Plus, it rarely rains in Southern California. For many, the rain here poses as a necessary annoyance. Folks here generally know the actual need for the rain on account of the perpetual state of drought here, but mostly see it as a hassle. For us, it is always a treat when it rains. Not only do we genuinely love the rain just as it is, the rain also reminds us of home in Philly. It’s comforting for us.

So on this fine Saturday, for self-care, I am going to:

•stretch and take in many deep and cleansing breaths

•make some good warm oatmeal bowls, topped with yummy fruits

•cozy up near the window

•listen to the every track on this rain record.
